ADOPTION POLICIES

STEP 1: Book an Adoption Meet via private message on our Facebook page. At this time we are ONLY accepting meets booked via Facebook.

Click here to be redirected to our page.

  • We will only book one meet per available dog and one meet per person. At this time we cannot accommodate for viewings of multiples animals per person but if there are available animals at your appt time you may meet 1 or 2 extras if time allows.

  • We only book meets for UP TO 72 HOURS. We have found that booking farther in advance results in too many cancellations and therefore animals missing out on potential adopters in the meantime and sitting in shelter.

  • We book meets for AVAILABLE ANIMALS only. If they are not listed for adoption on our page they are not available for a meet.

  • We DO NOT accept applications in advance via email, applications are to be handed in at scheduled Adoption Meets.

If you live out of province/far away and have questions regarding approval please message our facebook page.

  • We DO NOT accept deposits.

  • We DO NOT hold animals

  • We DO NOT ship animals.

  • We DO NOT have a waiting list.

  • The adopter MUST be able to come here in person for a private meet and interview in order to adopt.

  • Adoptions are done out of our facility in Alix.

***please note that when booking a meet through Facebook we can only wait so long for your response so please respond in a timely manner.

What happens at the Adoption Meet?

An adoption staff member will review your adoption application in person and go over any questions or concerns they may have in regards to your answers.

If after talking through the concerns the adoption staff feels you would be a great fit for the animal specified we move on to the meet and greet.

At the meet and greet you will be introduced to the adoptable animal while supervised by our adoption staff so we can ensure that both the animal and the family members have a mutual liking for each other.

You will be asked to interact with the adoptable animal and if allowable go for a walk to begin to strengthen your bond and show that you can handle the dog in question properly.

If all goes well our staff will then approve the adoption and go through the animal’s medical file including any behavioral assessments and medical care and answer any questions.

We accept payment via cash, debit, credit (additional charge) or emt and full payment is due at the time of the adoption.

We require cats to go home in a secure carrier. We do sell cat box carriers for $21.00

We sell WOOF CONCEPT leashes & collars as well as transitional slip leads if you need to purchase at your adoption.

What are the qualifications for Adoption?

Our MOST IMPORTANT qualification for adoption is simply finding the right kind of home for the animal in question. We want to be sure we select a home that understands the animals needs and is able to care for it to the best of their ability. Not every dog is suitable for every type of home and vice versa and we will not send an animal off to a home that we do not feel confident in.

Other things we look for:

  • Does the home have an understanding of the financial cost of owning an animal (food, unexpected vet bills, routine vet bills, grooming etc.)

  • Does the families daily routine match up with the dogs needs in terms of exercise and mental stimulation needed.

  • Is the adopter knowledgeable on basic training, crate training etc in order to give the adoptee the best chance to thrive in the new home OR ready and able to gain the resources and information needed.

  • Is the adopter fully ready for the commitment an animal brings.

  • Does the adopter understand the importance of updating vaccinations and the importance of spay and neuter? Saving Grace is a big advocate for spaying and neutering pets as our province has an ongoing issue with the amount of unwanted and stray animals. We will not adopt an animal out to a home that has an unaltered animal for the purpose of breeding or any reason other than a medical reason confirmed by a certified veterinarian.

*** PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING ***

We do not adopt out kittens to live outdoors UNLESS they have come from an outdoor living situation and cannot become accustomed to indoor living.

Animals coming from indoor homes or who have been in indoor homes during their foster experience will not be adopted out to live outdoors.

We do allow indoor/outdoor living situations given the outdoor situation is safe for the animal and the indoor situation is a loving home.

***

We do allow outdoor adoptions for dogs given they have a suitable coat and have come from an outdoor living situation and will have adequate shelter from the elements.

***

PLEASE ENSURE WHEN BOOKING AN APPT THAT YOU HAVE CONSIDERED HOW THAT ANIMAL MAY FIT IN YOUR HOME. FOR EXAMPLE DO NOT BOOK AN APPT WITH AN ANIMAL THAT IS NERVOUS OF KIDS IF YOU HAVE KIDS. DO NOT BOOK AN APPT WITH A HERDING OR HIGH ENERGY BREED IF YOU CANNOT PROVIDE THE MENTAL STIMULATION.

It is best if the whole family can come for the adoption meet, it is REQUIRED for any dog over 8 months old unless otherwise specified.

It is not a requirement for cats however if with any adoption the whole family is not present and that results in the return of an animal we do not refund the adoption fee BUT DO REQUIRE OUR ANIMALS ARE RETURNED TO US.

WE PUT A LOT OF TIME, CARE AND LOVE INTO OUR ANIMALS AND IT IS OUR MISSION TO FIND THEM ALL THE BEST FOREVER H0MES. WE RESERVE THE RIGHT to refuse adoption to anyone.
